The Hardline Fall 2026 · Vol. 02

Welcome back, hackers. We just closed out Holmes CTF 2026, HackTheBox’s all blue defensive event, and it was our strongest showing yet. Here is where we landed and what is next.

▪ Holmes CTF 2026: 167th of 5,637 teams, 110 of 111 flags, 8,625 points. One flag short of the whole board.
▪ A first event to remember: new member Jazmin Carrillo cracked two of the hardest flags in the game on her very first competition.
▪ A big jump from last year: from 1,809th and 18 flags in 2025 to 167th and 110 flags this year.
▪ Two new members, Aleksie Beriozkin and Jazmin Carrillo, both competed on the Holmes team.
▪ One team slot is open. If you have been looking for a team, this is the seat. Apply below.
▪ Full Holmes write up is going up on the site, scenario by scenario.
▪ Certificate on file: our Holmes 2026 result is verified and archived.

Challenge of the month

This month it is OSINT. No decoder ring, just a browser and a careful eye. One account is holding a flag in plain sight.

instagram.com/truth_addicts

Clue: the handle above is real. Visit it and read what it points you to — the link in its bio opens a picture that carries more than it shows. What you want sits past the end of the file, written in base‑16. Pull the image apart, not just look at it.

Found it? The flag looks like ECHO{…}. Don’t bring it to a meeting, enter it into your membership dashboard. Sign in, open the CTF tab, and drop the flag into Challenge of the month. The console checks it, records your solve, and lights a square on your wall. One recorded solve per member per month; a wrong guess costs nothing.

roster · Holmes 2026: 3 competed · next team: 1 seat open

Holmes hands you the wreck of an incident, a disk image or a memory capture or a pile of logs, and asks you to say exactly what happened using only what the evidence supports. Three moments from this run are worth writing down:

[dfir]  Silent Passenger · a car head unit turned into a relay. The data channel only spoke while the command channel was held open, hold the first door and the second one talks.

⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿

[ad]   Last Light · a golden ticket and delegation abuse, on top of an event log whose header hid half of its own records until we repaired it.

⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿⠿

[team]  The plateau · four flags stuck for fifteen hours, broken when Jazmin quietly cracked two of the hardest on the back end and opened a third.

SIGNET, a signature you can paste into any document

SIGNET turns your name into a signature that looks real. Type it in a script face, draw it by hand, or clean up a photo of your own, then copy it straight into a cover letter or a Word document. It is free, needs no signup, and every part runs in your browser so nothing is ever uploaded.

NETUS, the aid calculator

Type in your credits, your residency, and any grants, and it lays out the whole semester: what you are charged, every grant applied, the loans, and the refund left over. It runs entirely in your browser with nothing sent anywhere, and every figure is checked against federal and Colorado aid rules for 2026 to 27. It is not public yet, so this is an early look before it ships to students.

AEGIS, an open source hub for local AI telemetry

AEGIS is an open source hub and bridge for monitoring the telemetry of local AI. It brings the signals from the sensors and local models running across your own machines into one console, triages what matters, and keeps every bit of it on hardware you control. DeepRoot, pictured here, is the endpoint side of it: Sysmon on a Windows host, every process and network event watched in real time and scored by severity with help from Claude. This is an early look, with more of AEGIS coming to the site soon.
